We at SportingTalents.com are proud to have been one of the first portals to have been invited for the Press conference announcing the first ever diploma course for ESports & Game Design jointly run by Informatics Education & SCOGA (Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association) set for launch in September 2018 in Singapore with 2 more intakes in January and May subsequently.
Key partners like Bitrep.Me (Raiford C. Cockfield ) and AirAsia’s AllStars Esports club (Allan Phang) were present during the session to announce the launch of the course along with their first student for the course , Amos Ker, aka “ Quatervois” from the VainGlory game.
Mr Allan Norton, GM of Informatics Education kicked off the session with an introduction of why and how he envisions ESports to be a Key sport for future generations to come and that Informatics has explored this idea and concept the past year together with SCOGA and felt that they, along with the other co-collaborators can bring about great value to those interested in the field of ESports. He iterated his belief that there is a strong chance ESports will be part of the Olympics one day and that Informatics looks forward to one day be the alumni for the ESports athletes representing Singapore like Amos.
Nicholas Wong , chairman & co-founder of SCOGA next shared their vision on the landscape from when they started 11 years ago til today where he believes SCOGA has found a right partner in Informatics Education with their strong presence and experience in delivering Technology-based education courses.
Mr Raiford Cockfield (Rai) then proceeded to share more on the core benefits and practical takeaways to the students that the course aims to offer such as “practical life skills “ pertaining to live feeds, broadcasting of the games and even how to handle interviews professionally such that the students can take away something useful and beneficial from the course.
Last but not least, Amos Ker, the team leader & Captain of his Vain Glory team, Team Impunity, shared on the value he perceives from being able to enhance his education following his passion and dreams in his area of interest. He shared on how he was "tricked" in his earlier years starting off 2-3 years back when he was just a 16 year old into being paid for gaming and how he was unable to get those promises fulfilled due to his lack of understanding and knowledge of what's possible and what's not in terms of the agreements players can make with agents of teams, etc. With a course focused on the ins and outs of the eSports scene where they can learn more about how to carry themselves and negotiate proper terms and agreements will be useful for avid gamers like himself.
It's an exciting time to be in for anyone looking to make a career out of eSports as finally, there is a proper course aimed at providing the fundamental knowledge, skills and know-hows for those interested in the field.
To all aspiring E-Sports Athletes, time to get yourself ramped up and geared up for the course to bring you into the next phase of your life, all thanks to Informatics Academy & SCOGA !
The course will be open to both full-time (8 mths) & part-time (12 mths) students for those 18 years and above with basic pre-university or equivalent requisites and is open to both Local and international students with different fees for each type of student.
